Fic: Parenthetical (1/1)

Title: Parenthetical
Characters: Ginny Weasley, Tom Riddle
Words: 282
Rating: R
Disclaimer: Not mine, all JKR.
Warnings: Implied bad (abusive) parenting and ridiculous POV experimentation.
Author's Note: This was written a few weeks ago for [livejournal.com profile] sortinghatdrabs  that I completely forgot to post after the fact. I was pretty nervous about this one because I changed my structure somewhat but I'm fairly pleased with the result. :D Plus it took second place. Not too shabby.

Some nights, Ginny dreams. (This is a fallacy. She dreams every night. Only sometimes, she remembers.)

Those nights, she wakes up sweating, her heart pounding against her chest with terror (no, exhilaration). Her hands shake as she clutches the sheets, pulling them to her chin as a flimsy shield against the dreams she's fought (craved) for nearly a decade. They never go away, they're never any less vivid.

You're mine, Ginevra. You'll always be mine. I touched (stole) your soul.

He's always with her still, speaking to her, making her do horrible things. (Wonderful things.) Things that she could never tell anyone else about. A stolen book of hexes, a slipped slicing charm, a steady hand holding her child down in clear warm water (just a second longer).

But she beats him always (for now). With strength of will and her love for her family, she holds him back. (Or is it a fear of getting what she wants?)

We used to have so much fun together, Ginevra. Why aren't you fun (a monster) anymore?

Throughout the day, she feels his breathe on her neck, his hand at the small of her back. His lips against her breast. Things she's only ever felt in dreams cross over into reality (Or is this the dream?) and twist everything on its side.

Sometimes, when she comes, its his face she sees. (Or maybe those green eyes are the lie. That brilliant shade can't be real, can it?) Later, she'll cry in the shower.

Every day, Ginny's world shatters and reforms around him: her ghost (lover), her possessor (liberator). (This is a fallacy. Reality doesn't exist the way she thinks it does.)

Please dun be calling your parenthetical experimentation ridiculous. I liked it.

And I liked this very much so. Appropriately haunting and very well written. And yeah, I totes voted for it. Duh.
